I didn't see them at the reunion, so I didn't get a chance to say, "I'm sorry." I told my wife about some of the things I did 20+ years ago, and she urged me, no, mandated me to make things right. To prevent further embarassment, the names have changed to protect the innocent.
ApolloG #1: It was the Christmas dance our Freshman year - Sadie Hawkins style. My girlfriend at the time, we'll call her Kimber, had asked me to the dance, and I blushingly said yes. Things were going great that night - nice dinner, good company - but there was one thing that was bothering me. What happened next had nothing to do with her, but it was more about my own insecurites. You see, she wore her hair in a bee-hive. There was nothing wrong with it, it looked fine, but for some reason I had a hard time accepting it. I remember at one point of the dance, she asked me, "Should I put my hair down." I automatically and with no consideration for her feelings, said, "Yes!". She spent the rest of the evening in the bathroom crying. Needless to say, our relationship did not survive that night. Kimber - I'm sorry.
ApolloG #2: Fast forward to Senior Prom. My date, we'll call her - Cheri (w/wo a French accent ... your choice), had charitably said yes to my invitation. How did I repay her generosity, by wearing a tux with a confetti/paint splattered shirt. A fashion faux pas, nonetheless. And to add to the nightmare, I wore white "rocker" boots. I did, however, manage to match the color of her dress with the cumberbund, suspenders, and bow tie. Cheri - I'm sorry.
More to come. Trust me ... I have so much to Apollo-gize for.

, on 03-26-2008 07:25 I remember both of those events, all too well. I can think of an ApolloG # 3. In football practice when you absolutely flattened one of our best friends...TWICE. You hit him so hard he couldn't remember his name. We'll call him "Mick Crockett", just to protect his identity. :) Okay, okay, so you don't really need to ApolloGize, but it's a great story anyway.
